Samfra's first birthday - Journey is the only reward

It was 2nd Sept 2007 when we launched Samfra. Starting from one city (Bangalore) to 20 cities, then came the movie timings search (in 6 cities) which is now available in 20 cities. Then we added News search followed by Videos.

Samfra also entered in mobiles by launching a wap site. We had lots of learning, improvements and experiences during this journey so far.

Many people asked us the meaning of the name Samfra. Well, the name is made up of San Francisco city. We spent many days looking for a proper name whose domain is also available :)

It is the result of continous efforts for making a useful product for all. There have been glitches, bugs and criticisms along with praises and credits but we always try to overcome the problems and difficulties to ensure that we make an Indian product which knows India better.

There are lot of developments going on and we promise to take Samfra to the maximum level where it can reach.

Samfra goes more deep in India

Hi,
In line of our efforts for Samfra, we have taken Samfra more deep in India.

1. Now movie show timings search is available in 20 cities (earlier was in 6 cities).

2. News search results are more Indian in nature by default with much more features.

3. A new feature of city news has been added to read city specific news (in 12 cities).

4. Lots of data is added in local search to make it cover more shops.

5. We Indians love cricket, so Samfra now shows cricket scores of live matches in search results.

6. A new feature of Good News has been added which allows you to read good news for today, to make you feel better.

Apart from these, several stability fixes and usability enhancements and changes in UI have been done.

We hope that you will like the improvements.

There are many exciting things going on and you will see lot more improvements in Samfra in future.

Now view movie show timings in 20 cities

Now you can search for movie show timings in 20 cities (earlier it was in 6 cities). It provides you up-to-date show timings of almost all movies running in your local cinemas.

This change was heavily based on the feedbacks that we received from our users. We assure you many more exciting things in near future.

Now you don't have to miss the scores of your favorite cricket matches. Samfra now shows up to date scores of live cricket matches along with every result page.

You can also search for cricket score anywhere in Samfra to view the latest score in details.

Videos are better than photos

Samfra has grown with great speed over past few months. And now, to increase the speed further, we have added video search in Samfra.

You can search from a huge collection of videos and watch them right within Samfra. You can browse the videos by categories, sort them by popularity, duration, rate them, write comments. You can also share the videos you like with your friends by "quick mail" feature in Samfra.

Now you can view all the running movies in your city by clicking on a link "Now Running". This link is available in Samfra movies home page and movie results page. Try it here, see Now Running movies.

In the movie results page, the links are context aware now. That means, if you are searching for "Latest Movies" then you get to see links of "Upcoming Movies" and "Now Running" on the top.

We are very excited about the response we are getting for movie search and we are working to give better experience to our users.

We are very pleased to announce the availability of movie timings search in Samfra. You can search movie timings across 6 cities (Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi) in India.

For your convenience, we have provided links of Latest Movies – where you can view all latest movies in a city, and Upcoming Movies – which gives you a taste of movies to come.

You can rate the Movies, Comment them and view the upcoming movies. And also, you don’t need to register to comment any movie.

Apart from this, you can also try searches like English Movies, Hindi Movies, Action Movies or Comedy movies etc.

Samfra is available in 20 cities now

Local search is now available in 20 cities in India. We stayed in single city (Bangalore) for more than 7 months because we wanted to enter in more cities at once. So here we are, 20 major cities are now online.

I know, you don’t see maps of all locations but we are working on that and soon every location will have cool map views.

We are also planning some new features in near future. It again depends on your useful feedbacks about what you would like to have in Samfra.

So far, your valuable feedbacks have inspired us and guided us in implementing the new features.

Map view feature introduced

Today we introduce a map feature in Samfra. To view locations of existing places at great details, and fast map loading.

You can view maps of any location present, drag it along and find other places nearby, or zoom in or out to get more details about a place.

We hope this will make Samfra more useful for everyone.

We are pleased to announce that Samfra has partnered with DiscoverBangalore.com, a portal dedicated to Bangalore people, culture, foods etc.

Indian Local Search

Whenever we have to find out something in our own city, we go to Google, right? or ask our friends. But Google does not deliver results suited for local addresses, places or shops. So there is a clear need of having a tool which can give us results suited for local searches.

So we have launched a search engine, Samfra - Indian Local Search, it does exactly what we need and more importantly, delivers the results. :)

And to make it better, we have added the feature to comment on any place/shop etc. You can view other user's comments and decide any place's usefulness.
